Steve Luongo, drummer, author and vocalist for the John Entwistle band pays very close attention to detail when choosing and setting up his unique drum kit.

His kit is manufactured by the people at Grover. Its composition is of 100% graphite -- different from its wood-based competitors. These graphite shells allow Steve to obtain very high efficiency in performance due to the nature of the kit’s increased volume capabilities.

Support for the kit is supplied by a Gibralter rack system.

Cymbals are from Zildjian and span a number of sizes throughout the setup. Two of the 18" crashes are Mediums and the remaining two are Rock. Hi-hats of choice are the tried and true New Beat model. In addition to the two 20" China Types, Steve also adds two 8" splashes and rounds the kit off with a 20" Ping Ride.

For snare drums, Steve prefers the raw energy produced by the Grover Nickel snare. He uses two of them, one in front and one placed near the floor toms. To further obtain Steve’s bold snare tone, he fits them with a Remo 114BA medium Ambassador batter head on the top, and a 114SD membrane for the bottom. "I use the thinnest membrane available. That plays a key role in my snare sound", Steve explains. For his toms, all are fitted with Remo Pinstripes for the tops, and clear-light Diplomats for the bottoms. Again, Steve states that light heads on the bottoms are a key factor in producing a good cut-through tone.

Steve closes by stating, "Everyone of the companies have treated me with the same respect as the most famous artists are treated. I am grateful for the high level of treatment I have received from all of the companies."
